My users now get a choice of a bone stock Windows 10 Shite Menu or Classic Shell now. If you don't like ClassicShell / OpenShell pay for something like Start10? What's the problem? Is it really just 'well it doesn't get updates' as if that's a problem for a poxy start menu? It's not like the native start menu is any better, it seems to break with every new OS build! I don't understand the hatred for Classic Shell espoused by posters on here, it's free, works disgustingly well and even has GPO support. The native Win 10 start menu is a broken heap of shite, this script broke for me on 1809 actually, so you're doing better than I ever did! Point him in the direction of Open Shell, it is a fork of Classic Shell that will hopefully be updated as Microsoft break Classic Shell. I'm not surprised he wants Classic Shell. Ultimately my solution is still viable and worst case users can live with their start menu getting squished at login the few times a year I update the list of installed apps. I also think there may be an issue with the script as its outputed format is different than the output of export-startlayout, I'm wondering if i fix this it will solve the reset issue. If I don't rewrite it but do apply it it does keep the users setting of 3 wide and their changes. It appears that rewriting the layout.xml every login resets the menu. My boss is demanding "classic shell" but I think its a cheap hack that will end up with not only issues but training problems as home computers all use the new style menu.Īm I missing something on this whole layout thing? I want to get it to do 3 wide by default instead of 1 column wide but don't know how to make that happen. However after installing 1903 the start menu now is only one column like this unusable junk, employee's can stretch it back to any size but after logout/login it resets back to 1 column.
